Sarah Ann Ridgway

Sarah Ann Bartlett Ridgway, age 94, peacefully passed away on November 23, 2022 in Kanab, Utah. Sarah was born on June 8, 1928 in Beaumont, Texas. One of her fondest childhood memories was sitting with her Daddy in the evening listening to the radio, especially baseball games. His nickname for her was “Whistling Sam” because Sarah was always whistling a tune. She loved music.

In the mid 40’s Sarah move to California with her sister, Betty and Betty’s husband and daughter. Eventually, Sarah settled in the small desert town of Lancaster. She worked as a telephone operator, the “Number, please” person who would connect people’s phone calls.

In 1950 Sarah met and married the love of her life, Billy R. Ridgway. They shared 63 years together, raising their children, traveling the world, and experiencing many adventures. Sarah and Billy moved to Kanab in 1989. They enjoyed the serenity of small town living for 24 years. Sadly Billy passed away in 2013, and Sarah did her best to live independently. Having her daughter- in-law, Sandy, right next door was a great blessing to Sarah. Her daughter, Rebecca, moved to Kanab in 2017 to help care for her mom.

Having the love of family and the wonderful care she received at the Skilled Nursing Facility in Kanab and Zion’s Way Hospice Care, Sarah was able to pass from this journey to the next with a God-given song in her heart.

Sarah will be greatly missed. She is survived by her daughter Rebecca Shreiner, daughter-in-law Sandy, grandchildren; Matthew Shreiner, Cara Shreiner, Dennis (Lacey) Ridgway Jr, Angela Ridgway, TeriLyn (Hexon) Maldonado, seven great-grandchildren, five great-greatgrandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Sarah was preceded in death by her parents, husband Billy, sister Betty, sons; Barry and Dennis, and son-in-law Abraham.

Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, December 3, 2022 at Mosdell Mortuary. Burial will be in the Kanab Cemetery.
