Ruth John Homer

RUTH JOHN was born in the cornfield to Willie John and Rose Toucha (Tucker) John on May 11, 1930 on the Willie John farm located against the cliffs located close to Monava. She attended and graduated from South High School in Salt Lake City, Utah. Ruth John met Kee Tsosie in Salt Lake City, Utah, they married on September 7, 1951 and from this union came Kee Tsosie Jr, Margaret, Willard and Wynema Tsosie.

She moved home to her parent’s farm, Willie and Rose John and as time went by her father matched her up to Kee Homer and from this union came Oliver, Orville, Benjamin, Sherrie, Ronald, Genevieve, and Jennifer Homer. Ruth John would have had 14 total children counting her miscarriages.

Ruth John legally married Kee Homer later after she had all her children. She and her husband, Kee Homer worked wherever they could find work up and down Utah, picking cherries, working in the sugar beet fields, picking and sorting potatoes. She did work at the Gap Chapter House as secretary and Tribal Informative, and her favorite job, helping her father on the farm. She enjoyed going to the farm to plant, water, weed and maintain the fields. She took care of her parents Willie and Rose John near the end of their time. Her father depended on her to help on the farm and to care for the sheep.

Through the years, she showed her love for her brothers and sisters through the things she did for them. She helped with the two water tanks located at the top of the farm. Her wish is that the nieces, nephews and grandkids take care of those water tanks and the farm. Mother was a strong person, she loved deeply and cared for all her children and the people around her. She was loved and adored by her children, grandchildren and others. Mother’s faith was strong in our heavenly father, son Jesus, and the holy spirits. She believed in prayer-talking daily to our father in heaven and his son, Jesus.

Our mother lost her battle to infections that ravaged her body. She started her journey on Sunday, May 21, 2023 at the Kanab, Utah medical center.
