Roy Donaldson “Don” Greene 1927-2023

Roy Donaldson “Don” Greene was born on October 26, 1927 to Roy Washington Greene and Kathryn Imogene Trowbridge in Huntington, West Virginia. He passed away peacefully in the early hours of Friday, September 1, 2023 in Kanab, Utah at the age of 95.
Don’s parents divorced when he was a young child and he went to live with his grandmother, Ettie M. Greene, on her farm in Wayside, West Virginia. His father remarried and had his only sibling, a sister, Ruth Ellen. Most of his younger years were spent on the farm. He returned to Huntington to attend high school until he graduated in 1946. He then joined the United States Army and served for 6 years, serving in both WWII (Japan) and in Korea during the Korean War. Don was an expert marksman and served with the military police.
While stationed at Fort Meyers, Virginia, he met Maxine L. Davis. They were married on October 31, 1952. They had four children: Linda (Lloyd) Millett, Loree “Patti” (Sid) Johansen, Roy D. Jr. “Buck” (Sue) Greene and Michelle (Gary) Cleveland. After Don and Maxine divorced, he married two more times (Neucile Tebbs Dodds and Diantha Kelker), both ended in divorce.
Don attended school to be an automotive technician. He followed this career for the majority of his life, working in West Virginia, Utah, California, and Nevada.
He loved spending time in the outdoors hunting, fishing, camping and pitching horse shoes with his family. Don loved baseball and was a pitcher in high school. He moved his family from West Virginia to Utah, where his wife’s parents lived. They settled for a time in Panguitch, where he and Maxine started little league baseball.
In later years, he enjoyed relaxing at home doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles.
The last five years of his life were spent at the skilled nursing facility in Kanab where he received great care and was well loved!
He was very close to his family and he will be missed tremendously!
Don is survived by his three daughters and their spouses, fifteen grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter and step-daughter Alena (Josh) Welch and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, and his son.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at Metcalf Mortuary, 140 North Main in Hurricane, Utah, with a viewing at 12:00 noon. Don will be laid to rest, next to his son and close relatives, in the Hurricane cemetery. Services are under the direction of Mosdell Mortuary in Kanab, Utah.
