Roger Holland

 Roger F. Holland, age 76, passed away at home on Monday, September 20, 2021. He was born in Flagstaff, Arizona to Roger “George” and Ardeth Button Holland on November 27, 1944 and moved to Kanab when he was four years old.  During his life he lived in Salt Lake City for 16 years and spent the remainder in Kanab.  He graduated from Kanab High School, Dixie College, and the University of Utah.  He taught geology and photography at Mohave College and served as a Kanab City Councilman.
 Roger married Kathleen Smirl in 1966, and they were the parents of three children: James Roger, Daniel Smirl, and KariAnn.  He was a true disciple of Jesus Christ and a fervent believer in prayer and helping his fellow man.  He served in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as a Bishop and High Councilman.  His faith and his family were the most important things in his life.  Roger loved to visit everyone. He never met a stranger.
 Roger loved his career of 45 years as a exploration geologist.  He worked in the fields of coal, uranium, and precious metals exploration, and was an expert on the science of earth.  Roger enjoyed rockhounding, and cutting and polishing rocks.
 Roger is survived by his wife of 55 years Kathleen; his children James (Nicole), Daniel (Julie), and KariAnn; his grandchildren Madison (Chase) Spencer, Devin (Emily) Holland, Emma Holland, Elizabeth Holland, and Elaina Holland.  He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Robert, and granddaughter Mia Nicole Holland.
 Funeral services will be held Monday, Sept. 27, 2021 at 11:00 AM in the Kanab South Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 604 South 100 East, Kanab.  There will be viewings on Sunday, Sept. 26, from 6:00-8:00 PM at Mosdell Mortuary, and Monday before the funeral from 9:30-10:45 AM at the church.  The funeral will be live-streamed on YouTube at Kanab Second Ward Kaibab Stake.
