Richard Burton

Richard L. Burton was born on August 17, 1930 to George Burton and LeVer Iverson in LeVan, Utah. He was one of fourteen children.

Richard moved to Salt Lake City at the age of 5 where he lived until he retired in Kanab, Utah in 1995. He resided in Kanab until his death on May 15, 2018.

Richard left school at a young age to work to help with expenses for his clothing and sports. He played football and got involved in boxing at a young age. He trained along side of Gene Fullmer. He later had matches against Gene, which he won.

At the age of 17 he met and married the love of his life, Vera G. Moss, who was also 17. They had three children: Yvonne B. Shell, Richard D Burton, and Mark L. (J’Lean)  Burton.

He was a member of AA and was very proud of his 40+ years of sobriety.

Richard will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor.

He was proceeded in death by Christopher L. Shell, John L. Shell, Boni B Kramer, Irene Faucett, Lynn Burton, Veda Lenord, Max Burton and Maurice Burton.

He is survived by his children: Yvonne, Richard, and Mark, along with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by members of “family” in Fredonia at the Senior Center.

Services will be held at a later date.
