Rhonda Button

Rhonda Mitchell Button passed away peacefully at her home on September 5, 2021, where she returned to live out her remaining days after a short but courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her children and grandchildren whom she adored.
Rhonda was born on July 19, 1952, in Cedar City, Utah to Boyd and Vivian Mitchell. She grew up in Parowan, Utah where she had a wonderful and imaginative childhood, climbing trees and playing in her secret hideout. She attended Parowan High School where she participated in many activities including; the drill team (Rammettes), student council, yearbook (editor), drama, and chorus. She graduated with honors.
She attended college at SUU in Cedar City, Utah where she was studying English. She loved learning and was an especially talented writer and editor. During this time at SUU, she met Lynn Button and they were sealed in the St. George, Utah temple on October 12, 1973. They raised four children together in Kanab, Utah, and later divorced.
Rhonda worked for many years at Kanab Middle School and loved being the school librarian, but later moved to the office to be the secretary, where she became famous for memorizing each student’s lunch number. She worked in the office until her retirement in 2016.
Rhonda enjoyed traveling and had the opportunity to travel in Europe. She also lived in Germany for a short time. She loved living in Kanab and was quite the green thumb! One of her great loves was music! She held many callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, but her all-time favorite calling was playing the piano in the Primary. She was a very talented woman and enjoyed playing her oboe with the Symphony of the Canyons. Rhonda was a voracious reader and loved a great mystery. Her greatest joys in life were her children and grandchildren. She taught them many things and shared her love of music, reading, and gardening.
She is survived by her mother, Vivian Mitchell; brother, David (Lisa) Mitchell; sister, Mona Lee (Cal) Griffin; children, Jeremy (Mary) Button, Danielle (Ryan) Grant, Cherish Button (Darby Nielsen), and Megan Button; and eleven grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her father Boyd Mitchell.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, September 9, 2021, from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Mosdell Mortuary. A family service will be held at a later date. Burial will be at the Parowan City Cemetery in Parowan, Utah.

When your Mom and Dad got married, I was a gangly self conscious teenager. Her kindness to me at family gatherings and willingness to talk to me, rather than tease me, stands out in my mind. Sending hugs to all.

Rhonda was a dear friend through high school and beyond. We lived together for 2 years at SUU. I have loved visiting with her through the years. She is such a sweet angel and I will always treasure the friendship we’ve had. I’m so sorry for your loss. I’m so thankful for the knowledge that we will see each other again. Take care. Sincerely, Shar Decker Chatterley.

I had the pleasure to be a student at Kanab Middle and High school when she was there. She truly was the sweetest lady in the office and worker for the lunch crew. I always remembered wondering if she would still remember our lunch numbers every single day and she did. She was so sweet and compassionate, always offering up a smile and extra juices at lunch. I am deeply saddened by her loss. I have very fond memories of my life where at school, I may have had a hard day and I remember her always smiling and saying the sweetest things. She truly was a angel. May she Rest In Peace.
