Reva Swapp

Reva Brooksby Swapp, 98, of Kanab, Utah, passed away on Saturday, February 3, at Kane County Skilled Nursing Facility in Kanab.

Reva was born on August 10, 1919, on the Gravel Springs family ranch located a few miles southwest of Alton, Utah, to Dr. Alfred Brooksby and Vida Judd Brooksby.  Reva was the third of seven children.  She attended public schools in Fredonia, Arizona, where the family spent the winters. In the summers, the family moved to the Gravel Springs Ranch.

Reva married Cliff Swapp in 1938.  The marriage was later solemnized in the St. George Temple.

She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings including: Relief Society President and in the Primary and Young Women’s Presidencies.  She also served in the Stake Young Women’s Presidency. Reva and her husband, Cliff, served a 2 ½ year Kanab Stake Mission.

Reva was the city clerk for the Fredonia Town Council, who were instrumental in getting a paved highway from Fredonia to Hurricane, Utah, a park and swimming pool for the town. She was secretary for the Fredonia schools and later worked as a Ranger Clerk for the Kaibab National Forest for a number of years.  Reva also served on the Kane County Hospital Board.

Cliff and Reva enjoyed camping, fishing and traveling. Reva’s hobbies were crocheting, knitting, sewing, and restoring antiques.  She spent many happy hours tole painting, oil painting, and painting on porcelain china.

Her special love was her family. She was preceded in death by her husband of 78 years, Cliff, in December 2016. Reva is survived by her children: Mavin Cliff (Linda), and Ellen Crystal (Bill) Holliday, five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter, a brother, Wayne Brooksby. She was also preceded in death by parents, and siblings: Viola, Marvin (Elaine) Brooksby, Velta (Herbert) Kunz, Myrtle (Oscar) Judd, and Eulamae (Keith) Bryner.

Funeral Services will be held at Mosdell Mortuary on Saturday, February 10th, at 11 a.m. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the services.  Interment will be in the Kanab Cemetery under the direction of the Mosdell Mortuary.
