Raymond Chavez, age 64, passed away after a long battle with cancer at his home in Kanab on June 12th, 2022. He was born March 25, 1958 in Gallup, New Mexico to Margaret Rodriguez Chavez and Thomas Delito Chavez. He was the 7th of 10 children.
He moved to Utah with his family at a very young age where he attended Kanab schools and is a Kanab High Alumni Class of 1976. Raymond loved to play football and played all 4 years in high school. He was recognized in 1975 as an All Star Player.
Shortly after high school he started a job with the BLM. Raymond fought fires all over the western states as part of the BLM, although the work was difficult he gave his all and had a sense of fulfillment. He eventually obtained a job with Kane County. He performed a variety of tasks and always maintained a good work ethic and was meticulous in all of his duties. After working with the county for 31 years he was finally able to retire in 2015.
In 1983 he married Patricia Rember and together they had 3 daughters, Lindsey, Lisa, and Raelyn. They later divorced. In 2007 He met his sweetheart, Diane. They were married on December 8, 2017. Raymond loved spending time in the outdoors with Diane whether they were fishing, hiking, camping, or even visiting the ocean. Family was everything to Raymond. He loved to spend time and support them in their endeavors. He has left a legacy here for us and he will be deeply missed.
Raymond is proceeded in death by his parents, Margaret and Thomas, older brother John, younger brother Daniel, and daughter Lindsey. He is survived by his wife Diane, children Lisa Chavez (David Hall) of Kanab, Raelyn (Dale) Gauthier of Kanab, his step-children Tabitha, John, Luke, Brittany and Douglas, 20 grandchildren, siblings Delores, Tom (Linda), Robert (Eunice), Tony (Pat), Hopi (Rex), Rosemary (Lamont) Black, & Arthur (Agatha).
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2022 at 11:00 AM (Utah time) in the Kanab 7th Ward Chapel, 604 South 100 East with a viewing from 9:30 – 10:45 AM. Burial in the Kanab Cemetery under the direction of Mosdell Mortuary.
