Raema Drake

Raema Haycock Drake died March 18, 2018, the day after reaching her 92nd birthday.  She was born March 17, 1926, to Melvin Swapp Haycock and Louise Hamblin Haycock, in Kanab, Utah.  She married Edgar Crosby Drake on September 12, 1943, in Kanab, and they were later sealed in the St. George Temple.  They were married 73 years before her husband died in 2016, and they are now having a joyous reunion.

Raema was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  She served people in every auxiliary of the Church, starting as pianist and organist during her pre-teen years; she held various ward and stake Relief Society positions.  After her husband retired in 1990, they filled an 18-month mission to the Leeds England Mission, then served four years in the St. George Temple.

As her mother before her, Raema was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.  From her father she learned honesty, responsibility, and love for nature.  She enjoyed reading, cooking, sewing, and traveling with her husband.  Raema’s family, friends, and Church assignments were her life.  The parting message she wanted to tell every family member was, “I want you to know how very, very much I have always loved you, and still love you.”

Raema is survived by five children, Dennis (Phyllis), Pleasant Grove, Utah; Lyle (Lucy), St. George, Utah; Brian, Bountiful, Utah; Lorraine (Bret) Baird, Boise, Idaho; Paul (LeAnn), Farmington, Utah; 26 grandchildren; 64 great-grandchildren; and four siblings, Blanche (Warren) Foote; Richard (Margaret) Haycock; Rosalie (Richard) Dame, and Scott (Suzanne) Haycock.  She was preceded in death by her husband, daughter Deanne, son Gene, grandson Dustin Scott Drake, parents, brother Thomas Haycock, and sister Mary Lou Bunting.

Raema thoroughly enjoyed her many friends at Spring Gardens Senior Living.  Her family appreciates the staff of Spring Gardens for their attention, kindness, and care given to Raema, and the nurses of Encompass Home Health for their excellent hospice care during the past month.

A viewing will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 24, at Mosdell Mortuary, 676 S Highway 89A, Kanab, Utah, with a family funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. at the mortuary.  Burial will be in the Kanab City Cemetery under the direction of Mosdell Mortuary.
