Patrica Chole Mognett was born March 17, 1942 in Kanab, Utah to Melvin Jackson and Viona Mognett. Patty had a wonderful childhood. She had many cousins and friends that lived close by, they were always playing night games, having bon fires, hiking the beautiful red hills and swimming in the city ditch. Patty was a fun loving person, if there was fun to be made she was always in the middle of it all. When Pat was about 15 her mom had cancer and had to spend a lot of time in Salt Lake. Pat was left to take care of the family. She cooked, washed, kept the house clean and tended her two younger sisters. Her brothers went to work with her dad. Pat always made sure they had something to eat and were taken care of. She also worked at Crosby Cafe, Ruby’s, and Virgil at the bakery.
Pat was married right out of high school and had one son; Kerry Grant Worthen. Patty worked different jobs to support Kerry. She attended beauty school in Las Vegas and after she graduated she opened a little beauty shop. She finally moved back home to Kanab where her mom and dad helped her. She waited tables at Chef’s Palace for many years. This is where she met Jim Koons. They built a house together before they were married. The house was done but Jim and Pat had never gotten married. Jim and Pat were in Las Vegas visiting Pat’s sister Linda and husband Ray and they decided to go out to dinner. Ray pulled up in front of the courthouse and said “Koons, now or never.” Jim said “I guess we better get it done”. So they were married on December 26, 1977 in Las Vegas Nevada.
They had a wonder life together. Jim worked for Kaibab industry in Fredonia and Pat was able to stay home. Pat enjoyed traveling, she would help Sheren and Dean Pierson escort heavy equipment loads all over the western United States. Pat also catered forest fires with Houston’s for many, many years. Pat was always the life of the fire camp; cutting hair, feeding lost firefighters and waiting half the night for a bulldozer operator to get to camp to feed him. Pat had many talents and crocheted hundreds of doilies. When someone special to her would get married she always crocheted their last name into a framed wall hanging. She loved to sew and quilt. In later life Pat began to oil paint, for Christmas some of her siblings would get a prized picture, which they loved. Patty also ran on the Kane County ambulance as an EMT Intermittent for 15 years. Not only did she help the patients with medical care you would see her secretly give people, who she didn’t know, money to help them on their way. She will greatly be missed as she was the family nurturer, if any of the nieces or nephews needed help she was always there to tend, feed and fix the booboo even taking them to the ER.
The Mognett girls have a family garden down at their mothers house where Pat loved to spend time. Besides planting, harvesting and sharing what they had grown, every five days was watering-day. You could hear the laughter and fun as they shared the garden. It was a magical place to relieve stress. Many people would come by and visit, they had a wonderful time making friends and memories.
Pat buried her sweetheart Jim only 34 days ago, I guess she couldn’t wait to see him again. She is proceeded in death by her parents Jack and Viona Mognett two brothers Daniel Jackson Mogett (sister-in-law Kathy) and Melvin Karl Mognett, a niece; Jennifer Houston, a great-granddaughter Treylynn Asay, numerous aunts, uncles, grandparents, cousins and close friends. Pat leaves behind her only son Kerry Grant Worthen (wife Angela Worthen), Four grandchildren; Brittany Worthen Wright (husband TJ), Schuyler Worthen (wife Kells), Jimmy Worthen (wife Cory) and Nikki Worthen, Eight great-grandchildren and One great, great-granddaughter with a new great-grandson to be born in January, Three step grandchildren; Bryan Neyra, Christian Neyra, and Rogger Neyra. She left a legacy of love and service; always helping, always kind, never letting people see her acts of kindness. What an example. We will miss her. Until we meet again, we sure love you Pat.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, December 13, 2024 in the Kanab Cemetery. A viewing will be held at 1:00 PM at Mosdell Mortuary prior to the graveside.
