Mary Gipe Phillips

Mary Louise Winrod Gipe Phillips returned home to her Heavenly Father September 23, 2018, in Kanab, Utah at home with her daughter, Susan (Lane) Little.
Mom was born in Parsons, Kansas on April 2, 1922.  She moved with her family to Montana as a teenager and later married her high school sweetheart, Donald Glenn Gipe on December 27, 1941.
Mom and Dad lived all over the United States on different military and work assignments, including Kanab, Utah from 1962-1968.  When Dad retired from the BLM, they had an opportunity to take an overseas posting in South Africa.  They lived there for six years and developed a lifelong love for the people and the culture.  They also spent many years traveling throughout Africa, Asia, and Europe.
Dad passed away in 1990, and on February 27, 1993 Mom married Thomas Wendell Phillips and moved to Tucson, Arizona.  She and Tom continued to travel the world until Tom passed away in 2001. Mom stayed in Tucson, traveling often to visit with her family in Colorado and Utah.  At the age of 90, Mom decided it was time to move out of her home in Tucson.  Her last years were spent in her daughters’ homes in Tucson and Kanab.
Mom was a loving wife, mother, grandma and friend.  Her wit was sharp till the end.  She never forgot a birthday or anniversary.  Mom always made a genuine effort to make everyone (young or old, stranger or long-time friend) feel special.  She was dearly loved and will be fondly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Bessie Winrod, her brother, Charles Windrod, and husbands, Donald Glenn Gipe and Thomas Wendell Phillips.  She leaves behind three children; Chuck (Debbie) Gipe, Susan (Lane) Little, Pam (Mark) Gebhardt, 8 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, 1 step-daughter Patsy (Randy) Paul, 2 step-granddaughters and 6 step great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 29, 2018 in the Kanab Utah Stake Center, 30 N. Main St, with a viewing from 10:00 to 10:45 am.  Burial in the Kanab City Cemetery under the direction of Mosdell Mortuary.
