Lucy Wadleigh

Lucy May Jensen Wadleigh, the last surviving member of the generation of Thomas, Jr. and Mabel Jensen was born on April 8, 1925 into a family of seven brothers and sisters. Her early life surrounded the work of a ranching, farming, sheepherding family on the Arizona Strip.

Lucy was educated in Fredonia schools and entered college at Arizona State College in Tempe, Arizona. Upon graduation she returned to Fredonia to teach. In early 1950 she accepted the position as Assistant Director of Vocational Education for the State of Arizona, a position she held for five years.

On December 1, 1956 Lucy married Alden Wadleigh, a World War II veteran and accepted a teaching position in Long Beach, California. Lucy continued her education and was awarded a Master’s Degree in Secondary School Administration at Pepperdine University, Los Angeles, California. During the summer of 1973 she attended special education courses at Oxford, London, England.

Lucy’s educational work included lifetime memberships in the Professional Educator’s Organization and Delta Kappa Gamma Society. She served two terms as President of AW chapter at Long Beach.

Lucy passed away on September 18, 2018 at the age of 93 in Kanab, Utah. She is survived by her beloved husband, Alden Wadleigh.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, September 28, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. (AZ) in the Fredonia LDS Chapel with a viewing at 10:00 a.m. (AZ). Burial will be in the Fredonia Cemetery under the direction of Mosdell Mortuary.
