L. Elizabeth “Liz” Halverson passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 25, 2025, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. She was at home surrounded by loved ones at the time of her passing.
Born on August 2, 1959, in Flagstaff, Arizona, Liz led a life full of purpose, service, love, and laughter. She attended college at the University of Wyoming and proudly served her country in the United States Air Force from 1979 to 1983, following in the footsteps of many beloved family members who also served. After her military service, Liz built a successful 24-year career as an IT Lan Tech at Discover Company in Salt Lake City.
In 1990 she married the love of her life, Wayne Halverson. Together they shared 35 years of partnership, adventure, and deep affection. After retirement, the couple made their home in Kanab, Utah where they embraced the beauty of the outdoors. Whether it was boating on Lake Powell, jeeping, camping, or making annual trips to the mountains to find the perfect Christmas tree, Liz and Wayne cherished every moment together.
Liz had a passion for gardening, both vegetables and flowers, and an even greater love for cooking—often creating meals with the same care and creativity she used to craft unique gifts and keepsakes for others. She was known for “remembering” people in the most special and thoughtful ways. Her beautiful smile, infectious laugh, and generous heart touched all who knew her.
Liz is survived by her devoted husband, Wayne Halverson; her mother, L. Faye Bessett (Utah); her brothers Joey Bessett (Utah) and Darren Bessett (Mississippi); her sisters Victoria Hershberger (Texas) and her “sweet” sister, Gloria Ribera (Texas); her sister-in-law Cheryl Bessett; and many treasured nieces and nephews and other family members and friends whom held a special place in her heart. She is preceded by death of her father George R. Bessett.
In honor of Liz’s generous spirit and enduring strength, the family kindly requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her name to the American Cancer Society at https://donate.cancer.org.
Liz’s legacy of love, service, and kindness will live on in all who were blessed to know her and that she rests now in the arms of her savior Jesus.
