Lee Mackelprang

Lee Mackelprang, beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully in Provo, Utah, on October 9, 2026, following a long illness. He was 67 years old.

Lee was born on May 23, 1959, in Kanab, Utah, to Gayneld Julius Mackelprang and Rose Marie Anderson Mackelprang. He attended Fredonia Elementary School and Fredonia High School, where he played both baseball and football. He was active in Boy Scouts and was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Lee enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially hiking, and had an interest in electronics and technology. He loved reading Western novels and following sports of all kinds. He was rarely seen without one of his many favorite sports hats and T-shirts.

Throughout his life, Lee lived in several places, including Tempe and Mesa, Arizona; St. George and Cedar City, Utah; and most recently, Provo, Utah. He was always happy to have visitors and share his favorite foods, especially pizza, hamburgers, milkshakes, soda, and, of course, chocolate.

Raised in a large and loving family, Lee was quiet by nature but possessed a playful sense of humor and enjoyed teasing those he loved, particularly his nieces and nephews. He treasured time spent with family and was known for his kindness, generosity, and willingness to help others.

Lee is survived by his siblings: Sandra (Lynn) Larson, Dale (Babs) Mackelprang, Diana Riggs, Hazel Honey, Van (Jamie) Mackelprang, and Mark (Sheri) Mackelprang; and by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his nephew, Matthew Mackelprang; his sister-in-law, Hope Mackelprang; and his brothers-in-law, Mike Riggs and Greg Honey.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers at The Utah State Hospital who lovingly and patiently cared for Lee, especially Alex, Suzanne, Dr. Bench, and the many doctors, nurses, and staff members who provided exceptional kindness, support, and compassion. Words cannot express our gratitude for the friendship, dignity, and care you showed him throughout his life.

A graveside service will be held at the Fredonia Cemetery in Fredonia, Arizona, on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. Arrangements are under the direction of Mosdell Mortuary in Kanab, Utah.
