Larry Donald Baer was born December 16, 1935 to Walter Matthew Baer and Clara Virginia Carter, in Peoria, Illinois. He grew up in Morgan, Utah.
He married Iva Jean Barfield on August 9, 1957, in the Salt Lake Temple. They had five children: Laura Jean (Kevin) Coe, Mary Elizabeth, Lawrence Donald (Becky), Kathryn Olivia (Scott) King and William Matthew (Lisa). Larry graduated from BYU in Ornamental Horticulture, something he enjoyed and excelled at. Larry and Iva lived many places, but most notably Las Vegas, NV, Elko, NV and finally retiring in Kanab, UT.
Larry loved to garden and took great pride in his vegetables. He liked them big–the bigger the better. He taught the Master Gardner class for several years in Kanab. He also raised chickens and goats. Larry was a master soup maker, using the abundance of his garden to feed his family. He canned his bounty and always had a fully stocked root cellar. Scouting was important to Larry and he spent many hours hiking and exploring. He often found arrowheads and had quite the collection.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his sister Virginia (Mike) Woodward and two daughters Mary and Kathy. He is survived by his brother Bob, daughter, Laura, his two sons Lawrence and Willie, 19 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.

We will truly miss this wonderful man and friend! Our grandchildren always thought it was so great that we actually had a real brother Baer in our Ward. Larry was one of the great gardeners of the world. Hopefully heaven has a few flowers to plant, some tomatoes to grow and some fruit trees to prune. We love you, Larry!
