KATHERINE HUBBARD

Katy passed away peacefully Monday morning June 3, surrounded by the red hills she so loved throughout her life. She was born in Kanab, Utah in 1928, fittingly in July because she was a firecracker in her younger years. In her teens she was always ready to play pranks on unsuspecting victims with her life-long friend, Lyall McDonald. After graduating from high school and a year at Dixie College, she enrolled in Holy Cross Nursing School in Salt Lake City. She endured rigorous training from the nuns and received her nursing degree. Then a handsome young engineer caught her eye and she said “yes”. She and Bob were married in 1951 and spent the next 63 years together. After living in several states they retired to Kanab, home again in the red hills. Together they built their own home and made their little piece of the desert bloom. She taught her daughters Andrea & Julie to be resilient, to cherish antiques, to respect tradition, to read good books, and to nurture anything with roots. Andrea & Julie would like to thank the incredible women, Laura and Dacia, for taking such good care of Katy and for her special neighbors, Tamra, Brenda and Dennis. Graveside services will be held at 9:00 am on Saturday, June 8 at the Kanab City Cemetery.
