Her early years were spent growing up in Alton. She was fond of telling us about
helping her dad milk 13 cows every morning before school. They took the milk out to
the highway and met the mail truck, sending it on to Panguitch to sell. They used the
milk money for lunch money.
She attended Orderville High school, and following graduation, went to Cedar to
attend college. After completing one year she met, and married Errol Hoyt on July 15,
1954 in the St, George temple. Their family was blessed with six children.
Clorene did return to college in Cedar City, with 4 little girls, then on to Logan,
three years later, with a new baby boy, to complete her degree in Home Economics at
USU. She went to teach two years in Enterprise, Utah and then two years in Fredonia,
Az.. While they were in Fredonia, they built a new home that she loved!
Her teaching career did not end there. She continued to teach numerous sewing
classes, 4-H classes, and Food Sense classes for Kane county extension. She worked at
Pipe Springs Fort giving tours and telling the history of the area. She completed her
working years at the Heritage House in Kanab, giving tours and telling about it’s
history. Her children and grandchildren were frequent visitors, who often helped her
close up for the night.
She was an accomplished seamstress and hand working expert. Her family were
the recipients of her many quilts, crochet baby booties and dresses.
She made numerous outfits for her girls including their prom and wedding dresses.

Florence helped me learn to sew at in 4H and helped me to develop a lifelong love for sewing and the skill to use that love in serving my family and many others.
I learned to sew and love it from her through 4H.
