John Dean Hepworth was born in Orderville, Utah to Charles and Gayle (Brinkerhoff) Hepworth on December 3, 1962. 

John enjoyed growing up in Orderville, and it was there he grew his love for living in a small town.  He enjoyed being out in the mountains, driving down dirt roads, and riding horseback.  He appreciated the close-knit, small community.  Shortly before he passed away, he and his grandchildren were looking at an elementary school class photo.  One of his grandchildren (to whom he was known as “Grandpa with a Mustache”) asked which of the other kids were his friends, and he said with a smile, “All of them were my friends.”

When he was a teenager, he moved to Page, Arizona.  There he worked at his father’s Texaco service station pumping gas and washing windows.  One evening, he met up with his friend Dennis and his girlfriend and her sister, Beth.  John and Dennis decided to have an arm wrestle, and after John won the arm wrestle, Beth took an interest in this wild, strong young man.  The two began spending a lot of time together, and shortly thereafter he married the love of his life, Beth.  He had two stepsons, Larry and Luke, through Beth, and he had two more sons with Beth, Squire and Trace.  Although, to some he seemed to have a gruff exterior, inside he was a gentle man.  A slug on the arm was his way of showing love. 

He prided himself on being a hard worker.  He had a problem-solving mind and good strong hands for being a mechanic.  He worked for a few decades as a mechanic and for a few years running a gravel pit.  He moved to Riverton, Utah in his 20’s and stayed there for about 15 years.  He preferred living in a small town, and he eventually moved back to Page.

After he retired, he continued to work on his tractors.  He enjoyed going to tractor pulls and watching “Tractor Fever” on TV.  He would drive his tractors in the town parades.

His favorite thing was to work on the ranch.  Almost daily he was out feeding and watering the cattle, horses and other animals, planting and watering the field, or fixing something that needed fixing on the ranch.  The ranch was where he was truly at home.

He was a giving man.  He never passed a stranger on the side of the road whose vehicle had broken down, and he always had plenty of tools in the back of his truck.  Very often he would fix the vehicles of friends and family members.  He served in several callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints including as a member of the bishopric and as an Elder’s Quorum President.  He helped many people and never sought any recognition, being the humble and quiet man he was.

John sadly passed away in Page, Arizona on July 27, 2026, too early for those who knew and loved him, but we are happy he is reunited with those who went before him including his wife Beth.  He is already missed by many.  John is survived by his father Charles Hepworth, stepmother Eulene Hepworth, stepsons Larry Stott and Luke (Katie) Stott, son Squire (Jennifer) Hepworth, brothers Tony (Patricia) Hepworth, Chris Hepworth, and James (Tory) Bowles, stepbrothers James (Miriam) Jones and Bruce Jones, stepsister Doreen Brown, 14 grandchildren, and many extended family members.  John is preceded in death by his wife Beth (Jacobson) Hepworth, son Trace Hepworth, mother Gayle Brinkerhoff, stepbrother Wayne Jones, brother-in-law Andy Browne, and many extended family members.

Memorial services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 1301 North Navajo Drive, Page, Arizona 86040 on August 7, 2026 at 11:00 a.m.
