Ila Esplin

Beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Ila Jean Young Esplin died peacefully at home in Tooele the way she wanted on Feb. 6, 2024.

She was born in November 14, 1931 in Clover Valley, NV to John Wesley Young Jr. and Minnie Irene Wilden Young. She was the youngest of eight children. 

After much hard work, Ila put herself through Brigham Young University and earned a Bachelor’s degree. She got a job teaching at Valley High in Orderville, where she met the love of her life, Vance Esplin, and raised her daughters. 

She worked as a teacher at Valley High and was the postmaster in Glendale. She and Vance also owned Esplin Brothers Mercantile and the Smith Hotel in Glendale.

She was thrilled to be a grandmother and great-grandmother. 

She was preceeded in death by her husband, Vance and son, Wesley Vance.  She is survived by her daughters Jean (Salt Lake City) and Valerie (Roger) Evensen  ( Tooele) and four grandchildren, Erin, (Tooele) Arthur (Allison) ( Tucson), William (Emily) (Ogden) and Melvin (Tooele) She had three great-grandchildren, Charlie, Brooklynn and Liam.  She is also survived by her brother Lynn B Young (American Fork).

There will be a graveside service in Orderville and she will be interred between her husband and son.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Primary Children’s Hospital.

    My mother was friends with your mother. When mother was asked to teach Home Ec., your mother opened her files to mother and helped her as she gave her ideas and files to help her. Your mother was a wonderful lady. She will be greatly missed.
