Hiram “Hy” Ewing Jackson was born in Panguitch, UT, January 21,1944. He was able to make the decision to go on hospice welcoming friends and family to say goodbye. Mending any fences and saying their personal and heartfelt farewells, allowing Hy’s kind and generous side to shine through.
The family tree leads back to the 1870s when his Great Great Grandpa, Swain Magnus Anderson immigrated from Sweden. Swain married a Glendale lady who became known to the family as Grandma Anderson. Swain’s Creek carries their name and heritage.
Hy grew up in Vashon Island near Seattle but called Utah home. The family, Hy, Evelyn, Hy’s first wife, Bill (William), and Jen, found a home and lifestyle they wanted in Mt. Carmel in 1974. Tyler, the youngest was born in Kanab. Hy remained in Kanab until his passing.
He had divorced and married Barbara who was a significant force in Hy’s life. They divorced in 1995.
Hy drove truck for Foreland Trucking hauling crude oil from SLC to Ely, Nevada. He drove truck for forty years, the last 20 for Foreland Trucking.
Growing up, his grandma and grandpa Anderson introduced him to horses. His love for them continued throughout his life. He enjoyed riding but also wanted something with a little more horsepower, so Hy included Harley’s in his life of open-air riding. He became a member of B.A.C.A, Biker’s Against Child Abuse, and rode with them until they disbanded in Kanab. Then he and his brother Roger continued their riding days together.
Hy was passionate about restoring cars. He had been building hot rods since he was a teenager. His last build was nearly completed the last week of November 2025, a 1957 Chevy from the ground up.
Hy is survived by his daughter, Jen, son, Tyler (Sheri) Jackson, Roger Jackson, brother, Juanita Arnold, sister and his two grandchildren, William and Magnus. His son Bill was lost in a helicopter crash in 1991coming home from the Gulf War.
Services will be held at Mosdell Mortuary, Saturday, December 6. The viewing will be held at 9:00AM with the services following at 10:00.
