Helen Maxwell, age 82, died November 27, 2023 at the Kane County Skilled Nursing Center in Kanab, Utah following complications from COVID. Helen was born February 25, 1941 in Kanab to Alta Jones and James Levi Maxwell.
Helen attended Dixie College, where she met Patricia Terry, whose friendship impacted her deeply her whole life. Helen delighted in serving a full, Spanish-speaking mission to Mexico. She used her skills at various times following to act as an interpreter for those needing such help. She lived most her life in “Long Valley” and worked for 30+ years at the Thunderbird motel. She cherished music, loving to sing around home and in choir. More than music, she loved the Lord. She was active in The Church of Jesus Christ, serving in various positions in the Relief Society and as secretary for the Young Women, Primary, and the Family History Center. Most of all, she loved people and delighted in greeting everyone with her trademark, “How are YOU?!” She lived in Glendale until she had to move to the skilled nursing center in Kanab.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Glenna (older sister), Beverly (sister-in-law whom she loved like a blood sister), Susan Linda Morrison (niece), and nephews Norman Bradley and Paul David. She is survived by her brother Norman James, her good friend Colene Brinkerhoff, and nieces Julia Marie and Brenda Jayne along with Norman’s 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
The celebration of Helen’s life will take place Saturday, Dec. 2, 2023 at 11:00 AM in the Glendale Utah LDS Church, with a viewing from 10:00-10:45 AM. Interment will be in the Glendale Cemetery. Arrangements were made with Mosdell Mortuary.
