Donald Walter Sarrells, age 88, passed away on January 19, 2020 in Fredonia, AZ. He was born July 22, 1931 in Sullivan, Missouri to Laura J. Armistead. At the age of 3 months, Donald was adopted by Walter and Josephine Sarrells.
Donald grew up in St. Louis, MO. He joined the Marines after high school to serve in the Korean War. After being discharged he joined the St. Louis police department. In the early 60’s he transferred to the Phoenix police department. From there he transferred to the Fredonia police department. He married Rebecca Cox in 2004.
In Fredonia he found his love for Llamas. He was the first person to be able to take the llamas, along with the Boy Scout hiking through the Grand Canyon.
Survivors include his wife, Rebecca Sarrells; his brother Bobbie (Ann) Knight: step-children Lisa (Robert) Aiken, Jay (Vickie) Cox, and William Cox; 7 Grandchildren and 6 Great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Per Donald’s wishes he was cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements were made with Mosdell Mortuary.
