Darlos Robinson Hamblin Peterson

Darlos Robinson Hamblin Peterson  passed away surrounded by family at her home in Kanab, Utah on Wednesday, September 6, 2023.  She was 91.

Darlos was born in Kanab on April 8, 1932, to Orvil Wilford and Lula Alice Heaton Robinson.  As a young child she spent her time playing with friends, cousins and two siblings, one sister Shirlene and one brother Dennis.  She roamed from the top of the red hills to the muddy bottoms of Kanab creek chasing lizards, collecting flowers and making jelly mud.  She entered elementary school in the old Kanab School and continued there through high school from which she graduated in1950.  While in high school Darlos met Thomas Stewart Hamblin (Tommy, Tom).  She said that “He was so cute.”  Shortly after her  high school graduation, Darlos and Tommy were married on July 19, 1950 in the Manti, Utah Temple.

Darlos and Thomas were the parents of four children, JoLynn, Thomas Douglas (Doug), Gregory Robinson (Robin), Carol Lee and foster parents to Maeta Beck.  They were together for 19 years until his death on September 15, 1969.

After the death of her first husband, Darlos married Charles Neill Peterson (Charlie) on February 26, 1972.  He brought three children into their relationship, Wendy McMillan, Neill Peterson and Linda Alvey, whom Darlos loved as her own.

While still a child, Darlos became well know for her beautiful singing voice and abilities at the piano. She sang at many community and church functions either solo or with others.  If she wasn’t singing, she was accompanying others on the piano or organ.  An active member of the LDS church, she served as accompanist for Primary, Sunday School, Relief Society and Sacrament Meeting.  She also served as a teacher and a counselor in her ward Relief Society Presidency.

She loved all beauty, whether it was music or art;  nature, desert or forest or gardens: and animals of all kinds.  She enjoyed reading, especially historical novels and the Book of Mormon.  She loved caring for the elderly and her family.  Her children will always remember her for her love of all things beautiful, her kindness, her faith and her Christ like love and forgiveness of all.

Darlos was preceded in death by her parents Orvil and Lula Robinson, brother Dennis Robinson, husband Thomas Stewart Hamblin (15 Sep 1969), husband Charles Neill Peterson (11 Apr, 2014), son Thomas Douglas Hamblin, granddaughter Misha Lee Hoyt, granddaughter-in-law Brandee Hamblin, grandson-in-law Brian Keith Church.  She is survived by her sister Shirlene Pierce of Fountain Valley, CA; children, JoLynn Hoyt (Gaylan), Robin Hamblin (Carolyn), Carol Lee Hunt (Eldon) all of Kanab, UT, and Maeta Beck (Dennis) of American Fork, UT;  Daughter-in-law Hollie Jackson; Stepchildren, Wendy McMillan (Las Vegas, NV), Neill Peterson (Texarkana, TX)  and Linda Alvey (Kanab, UT).  She is also survived by 20 grandchildren, 62 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to all those who have helped during this time.
