Daniel Mognett

Daniel Jackson Mognett was born in Kanab Utah to Melvin “Jack” Jackson Mognett and Viona Jane Chatterley on September 29th, 1939. Dannie was the beloved oldest brother of his five siblings, Patricia (Jim) Koons, Melvin (Sandy) Mognett, Linda (Raymond) Clark, and Molly (Joe) Houston. Daniel was raised in Kanab Utah. While in his youth he enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, and helping his dad at JDM, the family business. After graduating from Kanab High School in 1957, he went to Provo Tech College for two years majoring in mechanics. After college, Dannie met the love of his life– Kathy Mae Nielson in Springdale, Utah, and was married to her on September 29, 1962, in Las Vegas, Nevada. In their first few years of marriage, Dannie was drafted into the military during the Vietnam War where he was stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska, and served his country. In 1965 they returned home to Kanab, Utah where Dannie was able to work alongside his father Jack Mognett at JDM Sand & Rock. In the late 1980s Dannie became one of the owners of JDM. He loved his company and prided himself on his work ethic. Dannie and Kathy had three beautiful children together; Kriston Metzger, Shelli Jo Church, and Stephen Brent Mognett. Dannie’s legacy lives on as he has eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Throughout Dannie’s life he has loved all things outdoors, he loved going camping, fishing, four-wheeling, and hunting with his family more than anything else. He was well known for teasing the grandkids, making outstanding Dutch oven potatoes, and most importantly loving his family. On August 24th, 2023 Dannie passed away and was reunited with his beloved wife Kathy, parents, and many friends. Dannie’s funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 2, 2023 at 1:00 pm at Mosdell Mortuary. Burial will be in the Kanab Cemetery.
