It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Christine M. Baker Johnson on July 24, 2026. Born on February 14, 1944, in the serene town of Kanab, Utah, Christine was a beacon of love and kindness throughout her 82 years. She passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by the warmth and love of her family.
Christine was the cherished daughter of the late Lilly Veryl Brown and Jim Baker, and the beloved daughter of her biological father, the late Vivian Millett. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, David O. Johnson, her brothers Bobby Baker and Dave Millett, and her parents.
She leaves behind a legacy of love in her surviving children, Don Johnson, Debra Peden Smith, Shane Johnson, and Christy Johnson. Her life was further enriched by her nine grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her immense joy and pride.
On July 1, 1961, in the sacred space of the St. George temple, Christine married her soulmate, David O. Johnson. Together, they built a life centered on love, family, and faith, working side by side on their cattle ranch. Christine’s passion for life was evident in her many talents; she was not only a devoted homemaker but also a gifted musical artist, skilled accordion, piano, organ, and ukulele player, and a celebrated singer who performed all over the country. Her artistic spirit also shone through her oil paintings, embroidery, and quilts, each a testament to her pioneering heritage.
Christine was a pillar of her community, known for her generosity and service. Her compassion led her to organize and cater large events at the ranch, including the Moccasin Watermelon Days Rodeo, raising funds for community needs and the construction of a new LDS chapel in Moccasin, Arizona. She had a profound testimony of The Gospel of Jesus Christ, living her faith through service and example. It is estimated that over the years, Christine provided thousands of meals to those in need and to cowboys on cattle drives across the Arizona Strip and Kaibab Plateau.
Her family extends heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Bryson Hollingshead, Mountain Land Physical Therapy, Zions Way Hospice, and Mosdell Mortuary for their compassionate care.
A viewing will proceed the funeral on August 1, 2026, starting at 10:00 AM Arizona time, followed by the funeral service starting at 11:00AM Arizona time. Located at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Kaibab Ward, located on Center Street, Moccasin, Arizona. Christine M. Baker Johnson’s life was a symphony of love, service, and faith. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew her, and her spirit will forever guide and inspire her family and friends.

We love Christine .. she was always a friend… I will always remember when we moved to Moccasin. how she greeted us with warmth and kindness. One Christmas when our children were small she got on our roof and rang bells … our kids just knew Santa Clause had arrived!!! Christine will be missed. Our sympathy goes out to her family and friends…May you feel the loving arms of our Savior around you bringing comfort and peace .
Christine and David were mentors to Orval so when Orval and I got married, they were witnesses to our wedding in Salt Lake Temple. Christine is such a kind, generous, loving person. We loved to visit her and David. They live in our hearts with treasured memories. Moccasin Watermelon days were Grand! Christine was a great cook and was amazing with all her sewing skills and musical talent. May the family feel love and peace knowing they’ll be together as a family. We support and love this family!

I enjoyed knowing Christine while working for the school district. She was a competent and accommodating bus driver for our many field trips. She made the trips safe and fun for the students handling that bus on dirt roads on the Kiabab, sandy beaches at Lake Powell, city traffic and dead end tracks on the Strip. Christine continued to serve the students and community as a member of the school board. It was a blessing to know her and I pray her family and friends may have comfort and peace at this time.
Christine and David are legends in my family! They were genuinely faithful, the hardest workers, friends to everyone, and just so good. Thank you for sharing her with us. We are better because of her.
David and Chris, along with Owen and Adeline were our family when Tony and I lived in Moccasin. They made us so welcome and the whole town helped us reinforce the foundation and upgrade the big house at the top of the hill so we could live there. They would do anything for anybody and became our dearest friends. I love the whole family and sincerely express love and condolence and appreciation to them all So happy that David and Christine are together again. They served thousands! What a powerful team they are!
She was like a second mom to me growing up. I spent a lot of time eating dinner with her family. She, and others in Moccasin, helped me be who I am today.
I will miss Chritine. I love to talk with her. I hate the when she got she could not remember who I was. She was such a great lady. She will be missed. She always treated me like family and I appreciate it.

I knew her to always be fun, willing to do any task. She fell in love with David and his lifestyle. She chased it and him and it really worked out for everyone and blessing multiplied. Way to go Christine.
