Catherine Lazzara

Our wonderful mother, Catherine Lazzara, passed away on March 24, 2022 at the age of 97. Although Catherine was born in Chicago, Illinois, she was raised in her mother Country of Sicily, Italy. Prior to moving to Kanab, Utah, she spent most of her married life raising her family in Southern California. Catherine was known for having great strength and endurance in times of strife. She also was known for her positive disposition and radiant smile. Catherine always showed deep compassion for others. She was also very passionate about everything she believed in, worked on, or was involved with.
Catherine had the will of many and she was full of energy. After Catherine retired as a seamstress at the age of 54, she and her husband, Antonino (now deceased) opened and operated a successful Italian Delicatessen in La Habra, California. After her husband’s death, Catherine continued to manage the operation of their deli, working 14 hours a day, standing on her feet the entire time, until she closed the restaurant at the age of 71 years. Catherine always persevered no matter how tired she was or how sick she had become. Catherine battled a few forms of cancer throughout her life, beating the disease with her endless strength and positive thinking. Catherine’s energy inspired her nickname, “Ever-Ready Bunny”.
Catherine’s family meant everything to her. She loved each and every member of her clan with all of heart, developing a one-on-one special relationship with all. She was happiest when spending time with her family. Catherine had a special bond and love for not only all of her blood children, but she created and maintained very special loving relationships with many who also called her “MOM”. Catherine was especially blessed by enjoying the love and care of her two sons-in-laws, Dale Wilson and Curtis Hamblin, both always by her side in times of trouble and illness.
Catherine is survived by her children Cathy Himplemann of Redlands, CA; Tom Lazzara (and wife Linda) of Garden Grove, CA: Fran Lazzara of Hemet, CA; Rosanna Hamblin (and husband Curtis) of Kanab, Utah; her son-in-law, Dale Wilson of Whittier, CA; eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. Catherine was preceded in death by her daughter Jodie Wilson, wife of Dale Wilson, and her granddaughter, Denise Himpleman-Anderson.

Mom, you mean so much to so many, both in Heaven and on this earth. Until we see you again, please know you will always remain in our hearts.
