Arden Judd

Arden Judd passed away on November 9, 2021 at the age of 91 at his home in Fredonia, Arizona. Arden was born on July 2, 1930 to William Maurice Judd and Mildred Isom Judd. Arden was the 2nd and only son of five children.
Arden met the love of his life, Arcola Mackelprang, at the show house in Kanab, Utah. Arcola said she fell in love with Arden because he was such a gentleman. When they were dating Arden went to work for a short time in Reno Nevada for his Uncle. He returned to Fredonia to marry Arcola on May 4, 1952 in Fredonia, Arizona. Their union was later sealed in the St George Temple.
Arden and Arcola moved to House Rock Valley for him to work at the Sawmill. He had many fun experiences with coworkers while living in House Rock. One being Arden successfully walking the arch under the Navajo Bridge spanning the Colorado River.
Later that same year, Arden and Arcola moved back to Fredonia to help run Judd Auto Service; a gas station, mechanics shop and towing service that they had established. It was not long after that when his father was killed in a tragic accident while on a towing job. Arden continued running the business with his mother Mildred and he was well known for his masterful mechanic work. Later, Arcola went to work with Arden at Judd Auto keeping books and providing customer service. They worked side by side building a successful business that supported their family for over 45 years.
They gained a reputation and were respected as business owners for the high quality and friendly service. They made many friends from all over the country that would write letters of thanks to them for the help they received when they stopped at the garage, whether it was help getting their car repaired, given a place to stay at their house or food to eat.
During the construction of the Glen Canyon Dam, Arden took time off from the garage and went to work helping in the building of the dam. He was one of the last workers on the job as he was so valued for his skills, work ethics and leadership.
Arden was very civic minded and spent his adult life giving countless hours of community service to Fredonia. He served on the town council for 22 years, volunteered many years with the Fredonia Fire Department and helped organize and spent many years as a member of the Fredonia Search and Rescue. He was instrumental in shaping the town and bringing many of the essential services to Fredonia. Arden was always generous and willing to help out the community with his time and talents. Even into his 90’s, you could find him beautifying the cemetery, cleaning up roadways and mowing neighbor’s yards. He was the perfect example of a good, kind man never seeking acknowledgement or praise for what he did for others. He would just see a need and fulfill that need with a quiet diligence.
Even though Arden put in long hours of work and civic responsibilities his top priority was caring, providing for and loving his wife and family. Arden’s love for his family is only equaled by the love of his family for him.
Arden was preceded in death by his wife, Arcola Mackelprang Judd. He was also preceded in death by his parents, William Maurice and Mildred Isom Judd; his sisters Elda (Reed) Henderson, Melva (Lawaun), and Vinona (Leland/living). He is survived by his sister Carol (Forrest-deceased) Mich’l; also, he is survived by his children, Tony (Jan) Judd, Linda (Ted) Jensen, Vickie (Tom) Jensen, Jonny (Crystal) Judd and Kim (Crissy) Judd, 24 grandchildren, 67 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 20th, 2021 at 11:00 AM in the Fredonia Arizona LDS Church, with a visitation from 10:00 AM to time of service. Burial will be in the Fredonia Cemetery. Services were arranged with Mosdell Mortuary.

Arden’s ongoing desire to help others was only surpassed with his loyalty to family, friends, and community. His example of taking care of his mother and his wonderful wife, Arcola, provided a perfect example of unconditional love, deep loyalty and honesty. A true hero and as good as friend as possible. I will miss him more than words can express.
