Ammon “Giff” Earley

Ammon Griffiths “Giff” Earley, 78, passed away peacefully at his home on March 3, 2021. Giff was born on March 5, 1942 in Montpellier, Idaho, to Velva Claudia Griffiths and Ammon Jackson Earley. Giff was the second of seven children. He was raised in Springville, Utah and later moved to Fredonia, Arizona his senior year in high school. He married Carolyn Glazier June 29, 1963 and recently celebrated 57 years together.
Giff loved sports and excelled in baseball and football, playing for many years after he graduated high school, in the famous Fredonia “Turkey Bowl.” He supported the high school athletic programs and would “cheer” at the games, especially football. If you had ever been to the games you would’ve heard him “cheering”. He volunteered as a youth baseball coach and enjoyed spending time teaching the young boys how to play. He also volunteered to be an umpire at the games. He truly enjoyed being an umpire. The scorekeeper never had to ask what the call was. Giff made sure everyone heard.
Giff worked for Kaibab Industries for 30 years until they closed. He worked in the sawmill, the yard, drove log truck, and later worked as a truck driver hauling wood chips to Flagstaff. He won numerous awards for safe driving. When the sawmill closed, he went to work for Bear River, Glaziers Market and then at the Fredonia High School where he retired. Giff was a hard worker and took pride in his work.
Giff loved the outdoors and loved spending time with his family. He loved to hunt and fish. He particularly enjoyed spending time at their cabin at Panguitch Lake and fishing with his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. His family was very important to him. He and Carolyn had two daughters and he took great pride in them. He taught his daughters they could do anything as long as they worked hard and never quit. He enjoyed watching them play sports and was always there to support them. His family knew him better than anyone, and knew his bark was worse than his bite. He was a loyal friend and a wonderful father and grandfather and they loved him dearly.
Giff is survived by his wife Carolyn Glazier Earley; their two daughters Connie Sue Thompson, Las Vegas, NV and Tammie (Nick) Zaccaria, Fredonia, AZ; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren; sisters Rowena (David) Smith, Mesa, AZ, Linda (Art) McKinney, Albuquerque, NM, and Vicky Hafen, St. George, UT. He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Barbara Jean and Ila Ann, brother Ronald Earley and son-in-law Michael Thompson.
