Zona Prisbrey McAllister

Zona was born in a tiny house(shed) to Clarence and Mary Empey Prisbrey on February 25, 1929 in St. George, Utah. The oldest of 6 children, LaDell, Loran, Clark, Kent and Juanita.

She met her sweetheart, Theo Judd McAllister from Kanab, Utah, while they were attending Dixie College. They eloped to the St. George Temple on June 17, 1948, to be sealed for time and all eternity.

They moved to Kanab shortly after being married.  They were blessed with five children, Mariam, Wayne, Annette, Wesley and Francine. They also had two Navajo placement children, Peter Keith Curley and Norman Yazzie.

She graduated from Dixie High School in 1947 and attended a year at Dixie College. She worked a short time before marrying her sweetheart arranging the windows of J.C. Penney. Caring for her family by canning fruits, sewing clothes, and tending to a garden was a big part of Zona’s life. In her free time as a stay at home mom, she enjoyed her passion of painting oil landscapes.  Some of Zona’s many talents are sewing, crocheting, silversmithing, ceramics, painting, candle making, and genealogy.  Zona felt fulfilled and shared her love by helping family and friends in both learning or finding their dreams.  She loved her callings of being Primary President, Cub Scout Den Leader, Visiting Teacher and other callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  Zona taught art at Kanab High School and Mohave Community College.  After her children were raised, she worked at Bradshaw Auto Parts.  Zona and Theo were inseparable not only during retirement years but all of the 66 years they were married. They did everything together including quick trips to the part store. She enjoyed all her world travel with family, especially weekly adventures in God’s red rock country was her Heaven on Earth.

She is survived by her 5 children, Mariam, Wayne, Annette, Wesley and Francine, along with 23 grandchildren, 49 great grandchildren and counting.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Theo Judd McAllister, Her parents, brothers and one granddaughter, Belinda Ann Vincelette.
