VERLA LEBARO RUESCH

Verla LeBaron Ruesch, 86, passed away in Arizona on Friday morning, October 21, 2016 after suffering a heart attack. Verla was born in Colonia Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico on March 17, 1930. She was the third daughter and child born to Alma Dayer and Onie Jones LeBaron.
Verla attended and graduated from Hurricane High School in 1948. In her junior year she was voted queen of the Sweetheart Ball. Verla’s senior year she was elected Senior Class Vice President. She was in charge of the assemblies and exchange programs with other High Schools. She had a great group of friends that she stayed in touch with.
Verla LeBaron and Andrew Burdell Ruesch were married in the St. George Temple on June 4, 1948. They had a good life with hard work and service. Verla was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions in the Relief Society, Young Women and Primary organizations.
Verla enjoyed working in Zion National Park as a teenager and after her marriage to Burdell they both worked there. Burdell’s career in food service took their family to Sun Valley Idaho, Cedar City Utah, Flagstaff Arizona, Portland Oregon and Salt Lake City Utah. They lived in Salt Lake until his retirement in 1986. In 1987, Burdell and Verla moved to Glendale, UT.
Verla and Burdell had nine children, five boys and four girls, who kept Verla very busy and she spent her time being a homemaker. She made many of our clothes when we were young, made us meals and encouraged us to be our best. She drove the car on many days to help with the paper route that started with Craig and was passed down to most of the children. For the last 13 ½ years of Burdell’s career, Verla had the opportunity to work alongside him. She loved being with him more. All of their children also had the opportunity to work for and with them. This allowed them to teach their children a very strong work ethic and many opportunities to serve during these years.
Verla and Burdell sent six of their children on missions and then they served a full-time Family History Mission in Salt Lake City in 1996-1998. They served as Temple Ordinance Workers in the St. George Temple from February 2006 to October 2013.
Verla was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a loving and giving friend. She loved her family and friends very much. She was always finding ways to help and noticed things that needed to be done, and then she helped to do them. After moving to Glendale, they always had large gardens, and fruit trees. They bottled, and shared the wonderful products of tomatoes, green beans, apple sauce and apple juice, raspberries, and many other things with family and friends. She loved doing things for and spending time with her family and was very grateful to have been able to see them all this year.
Verla is survived by her children Craig Burdell (Marie) Ruesch, Pamela Stucki, Helen (Gary) Bowden, Shelly (Carl) Brown, Marne’ Cazier Ruesch, Gary Dean (Lisa) Ruesch, Tracey Scott (Shelly) Ruesch and Connie (Christopher) Cosman; thirty-two grandchildren; thirty-seven great grandchildren; brother George (Carolyn) LeBaron, sisters Clara (Jack) Maxwell, Cynthia Grady, Sister-in-law Leonora LeBaron. Verla was preceded in death by her loving husband of sixty-six years Burdell, two sons, Douglas Oren and James Jerold Ruesch, son-in-law Richard Evans Stucki, granddaughter Carrie Melinda Ruesch, her parents, one brother and two sisters.
