Peggy Louise McCarthy Luck

Peggy Louise McCarthy Luck, age 93, passed away peacefully on April 17, 2026, in Kanab, Utah.
Peggy was born on January 28, 1933, in Lawton, Oklahoma, to Louis Edward McCarthy and Gertrude
Rachel Beavers. She spent her teenage years in Las Vegas, Nevada, where she attended Las Vegas
High School. During her school years, Peggy was known for her vibrant personality and talents as a
cheerleader—earning the nickname “The Jinx”—as well as her love for dancing and competitive
swimming and diving.
In November 1950, Peggy married her first husband, Jack Bailey. Their marriage was later sealed in
the St. George Temple in December 1963. Together, they raised their family in Redlands, California.
Later in life, Peggy married Jake Luck in 1973, and they lived in Kanab, Utah for many years. The two
shared many joyful years together, especially spending time along the Colorado River.
Peggy was a hardworking and well-loved member of the Kanab community. She worked for many
years as a waitress at Parry Lodge and other local restaurants, where she became known for her warm
personality and memorable stories, including her experiences serving western movie stars during the
era of locally filmed films.
Above all, Peggy was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She had an
infectious energy and a zest for life that touched everyone who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis Edward McCarthy and Gertrude Rachel Beavers, and
her sister, Loy Earline Pfeiler.
Peggy is survived by her three children: Lynn Griffin (Ed Griffin) of Las Vegas, Nevada; John Bailey
(Donell Bailey) of Kanab, Utah; and Bryan Bailey (Renae Bailey) of Las Vegas, Nevada; four
grandchildren: Toni Holt of Las Vegas, Nevada; Jessie Bundy (Dustin Bundy) of Kanab, Utah; Chase
Bailey of Kanab, Utah; and Dylan Bailey of Las Vegas, Nevada; and three great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at the Kanab City Cemetery in Kanab,
Utah.
