Marie Neptune

Marie Melling Neptune, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2026, at the age of 97.

Born on May 13, 1928 to William Lapworth Melling and Thelma Smith Melling in Cedar City, Utah. Marie lived a long and meaningful life marked by faith, devotion to family, and quiet strength and service. She was the oldest of seven children. She grew up in a time of great change in the world and carried with her the resilience, gratitude, and work ethic of her generation. Throughout her life, she was known for her kindness, steady example, and the love she gave so freely to those around her.

Marie married Craig Francis Neptune on December 30, 1947 at the Institute Chapel in Cedar City, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the St. George, Utah temple. Marie devoted herself to her family. Her home was a place of warmth, laughter, and welcome. She had a gift for making others feel valued and remembered, whether through a thoughtful conversation or time spent together. Her wisdom and gentle guidance shaped generations who will continue to carry her legacy forward.

She found joy in the simple blessings of life—time with loved ones, meaningful traditions, and quiet moments of reflection. Her life was a testament to enduring faith, perseverance, and unconditional love. She was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in many capacities.

Marie is lovingly remembered by her children, Lenna (Darrel) Moore, Burt (Karon) Neptune, Frances (Russell ) Winn, Thelma (Boyd) Stapley and Janette (Karlyn) Bunting. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandson and her youngest sister Roma (Doug) Knight. She was preceded in death by her parents, 5 of her siblings, her husband and 2 grandsons. We are sure these loved ones welcomed her Home with a grand party.

Though she will be deeply missed, her family takes comfort in the many memories shared and in the lasting impact she made on every life she touched.
