George “Duke” Aiken

The Aiken family is saddened by the passing of their father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend.

George Russell “Duke” Aiken, Jr. passed from this life at the age of 94, Wednesday, April 10, 2019.

Duke was born September 25, 1924 to Dr. George R. Aiken and Juanita Ruby Hauer Aiken in Dayton, Kentucky.

He graduated from Dixie High, and then served in the Army Air Corps as a fighter pilot. He married Donna “Sue” Major September 15, 1948. He graduated from the University of Utah in Economics. He was a businessman, building the Aiken’s Lodge in 1951.  He was active in the Chamber of Commerce, Kanab City, as a city councilman, and American Legion.  After selling the motel, in 1960, he went into the clothing store business, buying the old Equitable, which is now Duke’s Clothing.

In 1980, he and Sue bought a home in Kino Bay, Mexico where they spent the winters. Duke and Sue were married for 49 years.  After her passing, he married Betty Standley.  Together they traveled the world.  After her passing, Glenda Maud came into his life as a faithful, loving companion.  They have shared the last 9 years.  The family is grateful for having her in our life.

Duke was an avid sportsman passing the love of animals and the outdoors to his children.  He was a fun-loving family man, businessman, cowboy, cowboy poet and friend. He said, “That of all he accomplished in life, his greatest and most loved accomplishment was his family.

Duke touched the lives of many with his love, kindness, generosity and integrity.

He is survived by Glenda Maud, his brother, Bob (Lenore) Aiken 

His children: Maggie (Ed) Browning, Rusty (Kim) Aiken, Sam (Cindy) Aiken, Sara (Wayne) Beck, Vickie (Martin) Wright, Ginger (Doug) Caudill, Tracy (Scott) Hendricks, Kevin Standley and “adopted” son Craig.

Grandchildren: Phil (Joleen), Becky (Dean), Katie (Scott), Jonathan (Ashlee), Jason, Daniel (Lacey), Jenny (Darrell), Little Duke (Jeni), Ben (Jennifer), Brady, Crystal (John), Troy (Morgan), Christopher, Lisa, Kayla (Kaden) Erik and 25 Great-grand children and 3 great-great grandchildren on the way.

He is proceeded in death by Sue and Betty his wives, his parents, a sister, Margaret Ann, Deby, a daughter, and many beloved friends

Viewings will be held Friday, April 12th from 6:00-7:00 PM and Saturday, April 13th at 12:00 Noon at Mosdell Mortuary – 676 S Highway 89A, Kanab, UT. Service will be held at Mosdell Mortuary on Saturday, April 13, 2019 at 1:00 PM. Interment at Kanab City Cemetery.
