DeWana Butler

DeWana Judd Butler, age 87, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2025, in Cedar City, Utah surrounded by her loved ones. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and faithful servant of her church, she leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and unwavering faith.
DeWana was born on January 18, 1938, in Kanab, Utah, and grew up in Fredonia, Arizona. She graduated from Fredonia High School. On June 15, 1956, she married her beloved husband, Dale Butler. Together they built a life rooted in love and shared purpose that spanned nearly seven decades.
Shortly after their marriage, DeWana and Dale moved to California where they lived in Lone Pine and Bishop from 1956 to 1979. These years were filled with cherished memories as they raised their family and built lasting friendships. In 1979, they relocated to Green River, Wyoming, where DeWana spent the next 15 years continuing to nurture her family and serve her community. Later chapters of her life took her to Rock Springs and Evanston in Wyoming; Mesquite, Utah; and finally, Cedar City, UT in 2008.
A woman of deep spirituality and commitment to service, DeWana was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout her life. Her dedication was especially evident through her work in the Relief Society where she served with compassion and humility. Alongside Dale, she also served missions in Independence, Missouri and Honolulu, Hawaii—experiences that brought them great joy and spiritual fulfillment.
DeWana’s selflessness touched all who knew her. She found joy in caring for others and was known for her gentle spirit and generous heart. Her love for poetry allowed her to express the beauty she saw in everyday life. She enjoyed researching and documenting her family’s history. Above all else, she treasured the time spent with family—whether gathered around the table or sharing quiet moments together.
She is survived by her loving husband Dale Butler; sons Wesley (Diane) Butler and Gregory Butler; brother Stephen (Darlene) Judd; 14 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her son Jeffrey Butler; brothers Jerold Judd and Derral Judd; and parents Orval Judd and Sarah Jackson Judd.
DeWana’s life was a testament to faithfulness, kindness, and enduring love. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew her.
A viewing will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 9:30 AM (AZ Time) at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 80 South Main Street in Fredonia, Arizona. Funeral services will follow at the same location at 10:00 AM (AZ Time). Burial will be in the Fredonia Cemetery under the direction of Mosdell Mortuary.
