David “Crocket” Johnson

David Owen “Crocket” Johnson, age 84, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2025, in St. George, Utah. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, David lived a life rooted in faith, family, and service.
Born on May 7, 1941, in Kanab, Utah, David was raised with strong values that would guide him throughout his life. He graduated from Fredonia High School and continued his education of Agriculture & Animal Husbandry at Dixie College. His early years laid the foundation for a lifetime of hard work and dedication to both his loved ones and his community.
David shared a deep and enduring love with his wife, Christine Millett Johnson—the love of his life. Together they built a family grounded in love and mutual respect. He is lovingly remembered by their children: Don Johnson (Julie), Debbie Peden (Beau Smith), Shane Johnson (Ashly Campbell), and Christy Johnson. His legacy continues through nine grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren who brought immense joy to his life.
He is also survived by his siblings: Virginia McArthur (Durant), Joanne Nisson (Bob), Ron Johnson (Renee), Addie Rollins (Cal), and Brigham Johnson (Jeanne). David was preceded in death by his parents, Owen H. Johnson and Adeline Swapp Johnson.
A lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, David served faithfully in many callings including Bishop, Bishop’s Counselor, and Young Men’s Leader. His devotion to his Heavenly Father was unwavering; he held a strong testimony that guided every aspect of his life.
David’s passions were as wide as the open range he loved so dearly. A true cowboy at heart, he found joy in ranching and working with horses. He had a deep connection to the land through farming and gardening—endeavors that reflected both his work ethic and appreciation for nature’s rhythms. Known for his kindness and compassion, David dedicated much of his time to helping others, especially troubled youth who benefited from his wisdom and steady guidance.
Whether surrounded by family or lending a hand to someone in need, David brought warmth and laughter wherever he went. His fun-loving spirit made him a cherished presence among friends and neighbors alike.
David Owen “Crocket” Johnson leaves behind a legacy of faith, service, and love—a life well-lived by a man who gave generously of himself to all around him. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to inspire acts of kindness for generations to come. A funeral service will be held on September 27, 2025 at 3:00 PM (AZ time) to Kaibab/Moccasin Ward Building, 82 Center Street, Moccasin, AZ. This is a beautiful obituary. I remember when he and Christine were dating! That seems so long ago I would to come home for the service, but Steve can’t travel. So I’m kind of housebound. I send all of my love to the family and the extended family.
