Clarence Spencer

Clarence Orson Spencer-94, our husband, father, grandfather, Great grandfather, brother, and friend–Loving known as “Tump”-passed away on September 29, 2026 in St. George, Utah.
Clarence was born on February 28, 1932, at Lee’s Ferry, Arizona, to Isaac Carling Spencer and Sylvia Spencer. He was the third of fifteen children and grew up surrounded by love, hard work, and close family ties that would remain an important part of his life.
During his early childhood, Clarence lived in Short Creek, AZ where he attended school through the seventh grade. In 1945, at the age of 13, he moved with his family to Colonia Juárez, Mexico.
In 1952, Clarence moved to Glendale, Utah, beginning another chapter of his life in the community he would come to know as home. From December 1952 to October 1954 he served as a U.S. Army Military Policeman during the Korean War.
Clarence married his beloved wife, Collene Anderson, in the St. George Utah Temple on February 4, 1961. Together, they were blessed with two daughters, Callie and Tammy, and built a loving family filled with many cherished memories.
Following Collene’s death, Clarence met Joyce Gifford Hepworth while attending a dance The Gifford Family was playing for. After that it became a weekly event for him. He loved sneaking in a dance or two with the dark-haired beauty playing the trumpet and singing.
On March 29, 2002, they were married in Mt. Timpanogas Temple. She brought with her to the marriage seven additional children that he thought of as his own. Clarence was grateful for the love and companionship of both of his wives and for the children and family relationships that enriched his life.
Clarence spent most of his adult working life in the logging industry. He loved working in the forest and eventually retired from Kaibab Industries. Clarence had a great love of being outdoors and could often be found hunting, fishing, or hiking. One of his favorite activities was cutting cedar posts, a hobby he continued to enjoy well into his 80s.
Faith and service were an important part of Clarence’s life. His church was a source of strength and purpose, and he faithfully served those around him throughout his life. He believed in giving back to his community, and serving the people of Glendale was especially meaningful to him.
Those who knew Clarence will remember him for his generous heart, his kindness, and his willingness to help others. He gave freely of his time, talents, and resources and never seemed to hesitate when someone was in need. His love for his family, friends, church, and community touched the lives of many. Clarence was deeply loved by all who knew him, and his legacy of hard work, faith, generosity, and service will continue through the many lives he influenced.
Clarence is preceded in death by his wife Collene, daughter Callie, son Tommy, daughter Cindy, grandson Mathew, his parents and numerous brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife Joyce, daughter Tammy (James) Shields, son Wyatt (Samantha) Hepworth, son, Riley (Charity) Hepworth, daughter Sarah (Ryan) Luetkemeyer, daughter Teala (Glenn) Grover, daughter Jilyn (Zachary) Stucki; siblings Derrel(Renee, Lynette)Spencer ,Harold Spencer, Rulon (Wendy) Spencer, and Emma Moore. 22 grandchildren; 17 Great Grandchildren, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 10, 2026 at 11:00 AM in the Glendale LDS Chapel, 100 South 100 East, Glendale, Utah. There will be a viewing at the Church from 10:00 AM on Saturday. Burial will be in the Glendale Utah Cemetery immediately following the services. Arrangements were made with Mosdell Mortuary.
