Carolyn Jones Heaton, 65, passed away on August 5, 2025 in her home in Las Vegas, NV. Carolyn was born on February 21, 1960 in Cedar City, UT to Willard Carroll Jones and Gertrude Ann Adams Jones. She was the fourth of five children and spent her youth in an active and nurturing home on 200 West in Cedar City where love abounded. After graduating from Cedar High School, she continued her education in a Weber State University sponsored nursing program at Southern Utah State College in Cedar City and Dixie College in St. George Utah. She graduated in 1980 with a two-year RN degree. During her first year of nursing school, Carolyn was introduced to William Heaton who would become her eternal companion. They were sealed on June 27, 1980 in the St. George, UT Temple. Carolyn worked as a nurse until the arrival of her oldest son in 1982, but then gave up nursing to become a full-time mother and homemaker. Although she never worked as a nurse again, her medical training and knowledge were a blessing to her family throughout her life.
Carolyn was a faithful and committed wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She loved to laugh and found joy throughout her life in the midst of difficult health challenges. She had numerous hobbies and passions including crafting, sewing, quilting, scrapbooking, and traveling to the United Kingdom to explore the land of her ancestors. Although never fully comfortable performing in public, she played the piano beautifully and passed on her musical talents and love of music to her children. Throughout her life she was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings in the Church’s Relief Society, Primary and Young Women’s auxiliaries. Favorite areas of service were with the children and youth in Primary and Young Women’s. Above all, she loved her children and grandchildren, and she made many sacrifices during her life to take care of and teach them the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. Words cannot express the love and appreciation our family will always have for her.
Carolyn is survived by her husband, William H. Heaton; her children, Jonathan W. Heaton, James M. (Kerri) Heaton, Bryan J. (Stephanie) Heaton; and Karli E. Heaton; her seven grandchildren; and her siblings, Robert (Karla) Jones, Alan (LuWenn) Jones, and Jay (Lorinda) Jones. She is preceded in death by her parents, Willard and Gertrude Jones, her daughter, Heidi Heaton; her sister, Linda (Scott) Adams; and her grandson, Russell William Heaton.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2025 from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. PDT at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ Hacienda Heights Chapel, located at 6325 W. Hacienda Avenue, Las Vegas, NV, followed by the funeral service at 4:30 p.m. Interment will be on Monday, August 18, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. MDT at the Alton Cemetery in Alton, UT. We send our sincere sympathy for your loss. May Heavenly Fathers blessings and comforting spirit be with you as you remember Carolyn’s wonderful life. Ron and Sandy Heaton and family
Will and Family, I am so sorry I will not be attending the funeral, due to an accident I have had. My heart is sad with the loss of Carolyn, She was our neighborhood friend while growing up and became part of family. We loved her gentle and kind manner and she and her family made the best Christmas cookies. We will always remember the Santa cookies made with all decorations of Santa’s red suit and eyes and all details. May you find peace and joy in the Savor’s wonderful plan, I am so happy for eternal relationships. Much love: Darlene Brinkerhoff and family.
To the Heaton family,
Rarely have I come across a soul so kind, so humble, so angelic as Carolyn. Through her, God graced us with a glimpse of the quality of beings Heaven will house. In her unassuming, quiet way, Carolyn revealed the divine nature of a daughter of Heavenly Father. She is a precious treasure to all her know her. I can only imagine the privilege you felt it was to be in her family. I only knew Carolyn for a short time, but she has had a significant and lasting influence on me. She served as a Primary teacher when I was serving as president for as long as she could before her cancer became too painful. She bore her suffering with such dignity and majesty. She was always turning the attention from herself to others, more concerned about their well-being than her own. She was deeply loved by the children she taught and the other Primary teachers and leaders. We are forever grateful for her love for Jesus Christ and her stalwart example of discipleship. Carolyn’s passing has left a sad emptiness in our hearts, yet we feel tremendous comfort in knowing she is free from her physical pain and in the arms of her beloved Savior. We know she will continue to bless us as a ministering angel from the other side of the veil until we can be reunited through the eternities of time. Much love to you all at this tender time.
