Mel Hamilton died at his home in Johnson Canyon, Utah on June 16, 2025.
Melvin Harrison Hamilton, “The Melman”, was born on September 17, 1953, to Melvin LeRoy Hamilton and Maxine Blanch Speck. The middle child of three, he was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved sister Janis Sue Schumacher (Suzi), and his younger brother Dean LeRoy Hamilton.
Mel dedicated his early life to music, service and faith, serving a full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Australia, Sydney Mission from 1976 to 1978. In November 1980, he welcomed his only son Kevin Kimball Hamilton into the world.
On September 22, 2018, Mel married the love of his life, Lynette Geddes Hamilton.
Mel was full of energy and adventure. He enjoyed basketball, singing and performing on the Las Vegas Strip and many other venues throughout his life and in later years with his wife and sweetheart Lynette. Mel especially enjoyed traveling to new locations with family and loved ones over the years seeing and enjoying new sights admiring Gods many and amazing creations always taking pictures, pictures and more pictures…
In recent years genealogy became one of his most treasured callings along with the joy of leading music for his church ward congregation bringing much joy and happiness as his broad happy smile and love for the music he led was contagious. He spent hours at the Family History Center, diving into family records and honoring his ancestors. Those who knew Mel would describe him as outgoing, spontaneous, carefree and he knew how to be a friend. He spent a lot of time attending several AA meetings sharing in friendships there. Above all, he had a deep and abiding love for the Savior and sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with those he felt impressed to share his love and testimony. He held a strong testimony of the Atonement, the power of forgiveness, the promptings of the Spirit, and the Plan of Salvation.
Mel leaves behind a legacy of faith, family, and fun. His warmth, adventurous spirit, and unwavering devotion to those he loved will never be forgotten. We love you as always and forever, your wife, son, family and many additions!!!
