Raymond Morley Black, beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2025, at the Southern Utah Veterans Home. He was 82 years old.
Born on November 4, 1942, to Marion Black and Verda Brown Black, Raymond lived a life rich in service, faith, and connection. He married the love of his life, Darla Jean Judd, on May 14, 1965, in the Salt Lake Temple. They shared 47 wonderful years together before her passing in 2012.
Raymond began his education at Carbon College, went on to serve faithfully in the Florida Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and later served in the U.S. Army as a clerk typist during the Vietnam War. Later in life, he pursued further education at LDS Business College.
A natural people person, Raymond never met a stranger. He made an enduring impact through his work as a salesman for Little Pancho, Clover Club, Archway Cookies, and Mother’s Cookies as well as when he worked as a store manager for Albertson’s and Farmer’s Market. Raymond was always greeting familiar faces and making new friends along the way.
He is survived by his children: Susan (David), Patricia (Matthew), Bryan (Terri), Natalie (Steve), Nathan (Mary), and Bella (Edward); his 30 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren, all of whom were a source of deep joy and pride. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Darla; his parents, Marion and Verda; brothers, Max and Bruce; and sister, Klea.
The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the incredible caregivers, staff, and volunteers at the Southern Utah Veterans Home. For the past six years, they provided Raymond not only with exceptional care but with genuine friendship, dignity, and love. Their kindness and dedication created a true home for him, and their compassion brought comfort and peace to his final years. We will forever be thankful for the many ways they touched his life—and ours.
A viewing will be held at Metcalf Mortuary, 140 South Main Street in Hurricane, Utah, at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 21, 2025, followed by graveside services with military honors at Hurricane City Cemetery.
Raymond’s legacy of kindness, service, faith, and genuine connection will be remembered and cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
