Josephine Alvina Corn, born on February 27, 1924 in North Dakota to Joseph and Anna Matejeck, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2025 in Surprise, Arizona at the age of 100. She was surrounded by family.
Josephine grew up on a farm in North Dakota, which she remembered fondly. As the oldest child, she spent many hours helping her father in the fields and tending to the animals. She rode a horse and buggy to school and remembered the sounds of the Model A and Model T cars. She lived on the farm until she moved to California during WWII to work and send money home.
Josephine met John Edward Corn in California, and they were married in April of 1945. Together they raised seven children: John, Rosemary, Walter, Theresa, Norman, Michael and David. They lived in several places throughout the United States until permanently settling in Page, AZ in 1976 where they opened Corn’s Tire and became well-known members of the community.
After the passing of her husband in 1999, Josephine remained in Page and lived with her grandson, Alan. Together they embarked on many adventures which kept her young at heart.
Josephine never turned down an adventure. She loved the outdoors, off-roading, boating, and traveling in her motorhome. She zipped lined at the age of 85 and was on a cruise ship cruising around the world at the age of 95. She enjoyed spending time at “The Roost” with her friends John and Clare and their dog Sally.
She spent her last weeks with family in Phoenix enjoying the holidays with her grandkids.
Josephine will be remembered for her infectious laugh and witty sense of humor.
Josephine is survived by five of her seven children: John (Sue) Corn, Rosemary Sneed, Thersea Miller, Norman (Linda) Corn, David (Tami) Corn, and Daughter-in-law Carla Corn, 15 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, sisters Arlene and Herma, and brother Charles. She is preceded in death by her parents, stepfather, her husband John, sons Walter and Michael, brothers Marty and Ardell, and son-in-law Donnie.
Funeral services will be held on January 25, 2025, at 1pm at St. David Episcopal Church located at 421 South Lake Powell Blvd, Page, Arizona. Following the services, Josephine will be laid to rest next to her husband, John, at the Page Cemetery.
