Derran Hoss Tait

Derran Wayne “Hoss” Tait, age 45, passed away suddenly on September 19, 2022 . He was born July 29, 1977 in Kanab, Utah to Donald “Heav” and Lori Tait. He married the love of his life Randi Utter on May 26, 2018 in Fredonia, Arizona.
Hoss spent many years coaching the youth in the community. He later went on to become head coach of the Fredonia High Baseball team, where he has been for the last 11 years. He loved coaching baseball & being a mentor to the players. He also loved serving his community as a member of the Fredonia Fire Department.
Hoss loved spending time with his family & friends. He greatly enjoyed his hobbies of hunting, fishing, and camping, and had a large network of hunting & guiding friends that he loved. His grandkids were the light of his life; he loved being papa Hoss. After he lost his son Jayden to suicide, he became an advocate for suicide and mental health awareness. Over the years Hoss & Randi took in multiple kids who became like their own.
Hoss enjoyed working with the youth in his younger years. For many years he worked for the town of Fredonia Landfill & then for Kane County SSD. He recently had started working for SunRoc as a driver. He had also worked throughout his life for the Savala Family cattle business with his dad & brother.
Survivors include his mother Lori Tait of Fredonia; wife Randi Tait of Fredonia; children Austen (Ciara) Utter of Midland, TX, Kelten (Cheyenne) Utter of Peyton, CO, Shaynee (Austin Anderson) Utter of Johnstown, CO, Caleb (Alysa) Utter of Fredonia, and Justus Waters-Tait of Fredonia; siblings Brandon (Summer) Tait, Janna (Billy Drabek) Tait, and Jennifer Harmon; 3 grandchildren Corbin, Oakley, and Kimber; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father and his son Jayden Waters-Tait.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 24, 2022 at 3:00 PM (AZ Time) in the Fredonia Arizona LDS Church, with a viewing from 1:30-2:45 PM (AZ Time) at the Chapel. Burial will be in the Fredonia Arizona Cemetery. The Fredonia Fire Department will be providing escort for the procession. Services were arranged with Mosdell Mortuary.
