Patricia “Pat,” age 72, passed away in her sleep on August 20, 2025, in Kanab, Utah. She leaves behind her husband: Doug Excell and her two sons and their spouses: Michael Robinson (Danielle) and Shawn Robinson (Liz). She also leaves behind two siblings: Peggy Black (Earl) and Shane McCormick; six grandchildren: Braedan (Paizlyn), Chase, Landon and Kade Robinson; Bergen and Brennan Robinson; and one great grandchild: Graesyn. She is preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Michael Hughes; and best friend, Stewart Robinson.
Pat was born in Waltham, Massachusetts, on November 10, 1952, to James and Anita Hughes. Her family moved to Salt Lake City, Utah when she was young and later moved to Kanab, Utah where she graduated from high school and lived most of her life. She met her first husband, Stewart Robinson, in Kanab where they raised their two boys. After their divorce, she married her second husband, Doug Excell.
Pat worked many jobs while living in Kanab. She prepared taxes for H&R Block, was a cook for The Frostop and The Junction, did sales for The Attic, and worked at Pizza Hut where she went from serving the first pizza when they opened to becoming the manager. After retiring, she missed working with people and started working part time at Honey’s Market Place where she finally retired for good. She lived out the rest of her life in Kanab, Utah.
Pat was well known while working at Pizza Hut and Honey’s where everyone enjoyed her friendly personality and great service. She enjoyed sitting on her back patio visiting with friends and family, playing games on her computer, shopping in St. George, collecting Boyds Bears, and having a love for Schnauzer dogs.
A Celebration of Life will be held later this year. Cremation was arranged with Mosdell Mortuary, and her ashes will be laid to rest at Kanab Cemetery.
Her family wishes to express their love and appreciation for all the kindness shown during this time. In lieu of flowers, you can donate to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary.
