Mike Woods

Michael Alan Woods, aged 76, passed away on December 22, 2024. He was a beloved husband, father, Poppa and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Mike was born in Provo, UT and spent his formative years in Page, Arizona. Mike always thought of Page as his hometown and was in the second graduating class of Page High School. He went on to attend the University of Utah and later became a mechanical engineer for the National Park Service and then at Navajo Generating Station. Throughout his career, he was known for his hard work, dedication, and passion for helping others.
But more than anything, Mike was a devoted disciple of Jesus Christ. His greatest love was for his family, and he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was always there to offer guidance, support, and encouragement, no matter what challenges they faced. Mike was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and ministered in many capacities, including serving an 18-month mission to New Zealand with his sweetheart.
In his free time, Mike enjoyed mountain biking, camping, genealogy work, boating on Lake Powell and off-roading. Mike was always eager to share his knowledge and enthusiasm with others. Mike served as the mayor of Page and was on city council for many years.
Mike is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Lois Jean Woods (Burch), his children Leslie Tubman (Robert), Andrea Taylor (Zach), Cody Woods (JoEllen) and Ty Woods (Rebecca), and his 15 grandchildren.
Mike died unexpectedly doing exactly what he loved– riding a mountain bike on the Page Rim Trail, where he has likely logged as many miles as anyone in the past 30 years.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, 28th of December at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1301 North Navajo, Page, AZ. A viewing will be held at 9:00 followed by a funeral service at 10:00.

“I LIKE MIKE” proclaimed a sign. Mike was running for mayor. I thought the sign was very clever. I asked Mike for one of the signs. He came by after work, driving his classic Ford pickup, and we put one up.

    Mike won!

I participated in many lunchroom and later email conversations with Mike. He had been to lots of places and done lots of things. He had lots of knowledge. I filed some of his comments away for future reference.

Mike talked fondly of his time in Boulder City, NV. We put Boulder City on our list of places to investigate for retirement. Boulder City won. On one of our trips to Death Valley we did a hike off of the road Mike designed and enjoyed the view.

Mike certainly experienced a rich, full life. He didn’t miss an opportunity. Retirement? How about an 18-month stint in New Zealand? How cool. Mike was able to give me some useful tips on driving on the left side of the road, as well as some great places to visit in New Zealand.

Mike bought my boat and motorcycle. He was really hoping Lois would take to the Gold Wing, as she really didn’t care for his other motorcycles too much. She didn’t. But she told Mike “you know you want it – just buy it.”

Mike liked two-wheelers. Although a two-wheeler ultimately ended his life, two-wheelers gave him life over the years.

I just had an email discussion with Mike. It was a shock to hear that he was gone. It was a pleasure to know Mike, and to see how much he got out of life.

I like Mike. I’ll miss Mike. I know you all will too. Be strong.

Mike Woods – LIfe well lived.

I always loved talking to Mike and Lois every time I visit Page. We talked about serving our missions in New Zealand, families or life in Page. I first got to know Mike and Lois when I delivered the Arizona Republic to them as a young kid. I always respected and looked up to Mike as a great dad and husband and all around great guy. He will truly be missed!

Lois and family, that was a great service. I loved hearing about Mike’s life. Ty did a great job with the eulogy. He (and your whole family) was very kind to my brother and me growing up, in a time when we really needed it. I will always remember him fondly.
