Dorothy Norton

Dorothy Sue Norton, age 86, of St. George, Utah, passed away on September 29, 2023. She was born on August 11, 1937, in St. Louis, Missouri, to William and Juanita McKinzie.

Dorothy spent her first 10 years of life in Missouri before her family moved to Southern California. She graduated from Citrus High School in 1955 and began her career as a secretary and typist for Lockheed Martin. It was there that she met her beloved husband, Jack, and they were married on July 1, 1963.

In 1971, Dorothy and Jack moved to Mt. Carmel, Utah, where they both embraced the gospel and joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

In 1984, after both her children had left home Dorothy and Jack moved to St. George where she had a strong community of friends. Dorothy had a strong testimony and chose to share that through her service in the church and community. She taught primary for the children, served in the young women’s organization, and eventually became the President of the Relief Society. Her testimony and talents touched the lives of those around her.

Dorothy had a deep love for her family and cherished her role as a mother and grandmother. She is survived by her children, Michelle (Tricia) and Michael (Susan), as well as her grandchildren, Matthew (Carla), Jace, McKinzie (Jackson), Jack, Robert, and Jesse. She was also blessed with great-grandchildren, Matthew, Isabella, Jack, David, and Harper.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jack, her parents, William and Juanita McKinzie, and her brother, Bill McKinzie.

Dorothy will be remembered for her unwavering faith in Jesus Christ, her dedication to her family, and her love for Christmas. She created cherished traditions that will be carried forward through the generations. One of her favorite holiday traditions was opening her home to her community of women for a Christmas tea where all were welcome and it became a much loved event. She shared her love of family with everyone she met. While working at Tom’s Mechanical she became a second mom to the Shakespeare children and thought of all of them as family. Her legacy will continue to inspire and guide those who were fortunate enough to know her. She will be missed by her family and dear friends.
