Elwilda (Willie) Lee

Elwilda (Willie) J. Lee, beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away on Thursday, September 5, 2024 at the age of 93 years young. Born on January 2, 1931 in Laird County Colorado to Guy and Dessie Schoonover, she was the cherished youngest child and only daughter.
Willie’s early years were marked by academic success, as she was an outstanding student and quick learner. She attended grade school in Larimer, Colorado before completing her education at Fredonia High School after her family relocated there to be closer to her brothers, Loren and Gerald. In Fredonia she met a handsome gentleman, Glenn A. Lee who jitter-bugged his way into her heart. The sweethearts were married January 4, 1948, and together they were blessed with three children: Gerald “Bobby”, James “Jimmy” and Jeannine Ann.
With the beautiful red rock backdrop, she raised her family and joined with Glenn in running the family restaurant. Willie formed lasting friendships and created countless memories at DuLee’s. Later, she found fulfillment working for the Fredonia Justice Court and as a realtor, continuing to build new connections and friendships. Known for her love of shopping and talent for knitting, she also had a soft spot for stray animals, particularly dogs, whom she took in and cared for. Above all else, she held her family close to her heart, earning the nickname Grandma “Maggie” from the ones she loved most.
Elwilda was preceded in death by her beloved husband Glenn, son Jimmy, parents, brothers, in-laws; James and Opal (Judd) Lee, and many loved canine companions.
Willie’s legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her, and her memory will be forever cherished. She is survived by her son, Gerald “Bobby” (Kathy) Lee of San Jose, California, daughter, Jeannine (Wayne) Butler of Grantsville, Utah, and daughter-in-law Leslie Lee of Kanab, Utah. She was the adored Grandma Maggie to 7 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild on the way.

Bobbie, Jeannine, in-laws, grandchildren and greats, I have so many great memories of your Grandma while growing up in Fredonia. When Glenn and Willie moved back to Fredonia from somewhere in California they were like celebrities to our little small town. I think you Jeannine were in 1st or 2nd grade and I remember being jealous of your beautiful ringlets. It was a treat to eat at DuLees as a young girl. First time I heard of Roquefort dressing was in that restaurant. Loved your Mom!

I did not know Willy was still alive, I appreciated her kindness to me, she was such a good and funny woman. I were to school with Jimmy and was friends with Jennie as I taught her drill team she was in. Jennie was always so kind and sweet I have much respect for all of them. It’s so hard losing your Mother no matter what age they are. Jennie you will have so many wonderful memories
Of her and all your family. Your in my prayers
