JOSEPH “MAC” BROWN

Joseph McVon “Mac” Brown, age 93, died Monday March 2, 2020 in Kanab, Utah. He was born Dec. 12, 1926 in Kanab to Joseph Gurnsey Brown and Alga Marie Brady. He was the oldest of three boys. He grew up in Kanab, Utah and graduated from Kanab High School. Mac served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Canada. There he met Ina Vaylatte Peterson. They were married in 1949 in the Cardston Alberta Temple. They lost a son, Robert Matthew, born premature, in 1950. They later had two daughters, Nancy and Carol. They lived in Kanab, Salt Lake City, Sandy, Crescent, and then moved back to Kanab. He worked in various jobs and jokingly said that farming was the only one where he was out standing in his field. His beloved wife, Vaylatte, died in 1995. He married Joyce Ann Creer in 1996 and they enjoyed 23 adventurous years together. Mac was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings. He said that he lived simply and requested that his obituary be simple as well. Mac is preceded in death by his son Robert Matthew Brown; wife Vaylatte; grandson Joseph Scott Peterson; and his parents Joseph Gurnsey and Alga Brown. He is survived by his wife, Joyce; his brothers, W. Rex (Nada) Brown and Marlin B. (Delores) Brown; daughters, Nancy (Kerry) Black, and Carol (Keith) Peterson; grandchildren, Jessica (Michael) Farr, Kerby (Kristi) Black, Nathan (Angela) Black, Jared (Mandee) Black, Jillian (Thomas) Bleazard, Amy Peterson, and Kevin Peterson; great-grandchildren: Audrey, Kimberly, and Matthew Farr; Kadin, Levi, Fisher, and Skylar Black; Kason, Kale, Ashlynn, Peyton, and Rem Black; Shaylee, Terin, Rindon, and Jace Black; Caleb, Alina, Bridget, and Mason Bleazard. Funeral services will be March 13, 2020 at 1:00 pm in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints meetinghouse, 20 W Center St in Kanab, Utah. Viewings will be held Thursday, March 12 from 7:00-8:30 pm and Friday before the funeral 11:30-12:30 in the same building. Interment will be in the Kanab City Cemetery. Services were arranged with Mosdell Mortuary. Mac requested that in lieu of flowers he would prefer a donation be made to Kane County Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility or to the missionary fund of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

    RIP Mr. Mac Brown…i havent seen you for the longest time but i remember how you always treated me and my family, thank you sir!
