Delain Judd

Sarah Delain Robinson Judd, widely known as Granny D, passed away on October 18, 2025, in Kanab, Utah, at the age of 81, (5 days before her birthday), which we will celebrate on the day of her funeral. Delain was born on October 23, 1943 in her aunt Hazel’s basement in LaVerkin, Utah. Delain grew up in Kanab, Utah where she worked on the family farm and ranch baling hay, herding cattle, milking cows, and gathering eggs. She was in the marching band and on the Larriettes drill team. Her sisters both tell how darling she looked in her uniform, especially the cowboy boots with the red and white tassels.
Delain graduated from Kanab High School in 1961. She began working at Peaches, now Houston’s Trails End, and later trained and served as a nurse’s aid and recreation therapist at the Kane County Long-Term Care Center throughout her life. This is also where she spent the last 3 weeks of her life, being cared for as she cared for others.
Delain was married to Burton Lavoy Rust (deceased) January 26, 1963 and they had six children. They later divorced in 1984. She married Derrall Judd (deceased) later in life and was widowed in 2013. She is preceded in death by her mother Rose Asay and her father Merrill Smith Robinson, her sister Ardene Sanderson, and brother Neldon Robinson. Sarah is survived by her sisters Merrilin Gassman and Quila Byrom, son Merrill Rust, son Dale Rust, daughter Ula Duffield (husband John), daughter Deanna Fulcher (Husband Glenn), daughter Anita Rust, and son Bryan Rust (wife Kathy); 23 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
Delain spent her retirement years volunteering at the Kane County Auxiliary Thrift Store, weekly activities with friends, babysitting for great-grandchildren, chauffeuring children and grandchildren, serving in the primary of her ward, and many other acts of service.

Granny D was a friend to everyone and served as a grandmother to many beyond her own family. Her kindness touched everyone she met. She loved people unconditionally and stood by them at their lowest moments. Her warmth, generosity, and steady presence will be deeply missed and fondly remembered. Those who knew her take comfort in the belief that she is reunited with many friends and family in heaven.
Funeral services will be held at the LDS church in Fredonia, Arizona on Thursday, October 23, 2025 at 1:00 pm Arizona time. There will be a viewing from 12 Noon to time of funeral. Funeral arrangements by Mosdell Mortuary of Kanab, Utah.
Her family expresses deep gratitude for the years they shared with Sarah and the countless small acts of love she gave that shaped so many lives.

Oh, I’m so sad to hear of Delian’s passing. I’ll never forget her favorite thing to say to me when I asked how she was…” I’m as Happy as a rooster in the Hen house!” She will be missed!

I played with Delian a lot when we were kids. She was fun and her mother was so nice to me, which I needed so bad. I will always love her. Our dads shared a windmill for there cattle. They had one of the best gardens in town. I think Delain loved everyone. What a great quality.
